I have a habit of finding nerdy/geeky places when travelling. Often this is on purpose, but sometimes I happily stumble into a movie set or find a forgotten piece of history.
There were plenty of opportunities to travel and explore beyond the 'typical tourist attractions' while I was living in London. Being a nerd I equally love literature, comic books, television, movies, history, and everything in between. Finding that extra bit of fandom abroad is exciting.
In Oxford you can have a pint where of J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis met for literary clubs. Stratford-upon-Avon is the home to everything Shakespeare and in Edinburgh you can have a cup of tea where Harry Potter was born. Don't even get me started on all the Doctor Who sites in Cardiff. From my experience, there is always something nerdy to find.
Nerdy Travels shares the places I visited and the nerdy elements involved, and how to add a bit of fandom to your trips.
Look for the little things. The nerdy can be found everywhere, like a cornetto.
Research events. There are always nerdy things going on, like Doctor Who conventions.
Fear not public transportation. Often great places are a short train or bus ride away.
Days trips are your friend. Pick a city to serve as homebase and plan nearby trips.
