Moving to another city, especially in another country, can be a shock. While London is in an English-speaking country it didn’t feel anything like the New York City I grew up with. Many visitors to Great Britain think they need to spend all their time in London, where there are months worth of activities. But some of my best experiences happened outside of London. One such place is Oxford, which is a little over an hour train ride from London Paddington station. Part of me regrets not spending more time in this city to further explore the colleges and the surrounding villages. Hyde Park in London may be my favorite city park in the world, especially the Kensington Gardens. Part of this may stem from my love of J.M. Barrie’s character Peter Pan. The first ever Peter Pan story shows an infant Peter hiding from his future adulthood in the gardens and befriending the magical creates who live there. While his story changes over time, the gardens are always the ‘birthplace’ of Peter Pan. For this reason J.M. Barrie commissioned a statue that still resides in the gardens and is modeled after the real life inspiration for Peter, Peter Llewelyn Davies. During…
